Shared Family Care
Shared Family Care is a program of Wee Care Family Inc and essentially offers foster care for children aged from birth to 18 years who are unable to remain in their homes. Shared Family Care is funded by the Department of Communities, to provide 165 placements in the Townsville area, including Burdekin, Charters Towers and Hughenden. The period of care could be anywhere from a few days or weeks to several years, but regardless of the timeframe, families quickly realise every child is different and offers his or her own set of challenges and rewards.
Our carers find each child has the capacity to grow, change and reach their potential. The carers who experience children and young people progressing and flourishing while in their care are truly rewarded.
But the challenges are immense and the impact on family life is not to be underestimated.
Because of this, carers with Shared Family Care are well supported by a team of staff who work together to help face any challenge. Sometimes the largest burdens are carried by the smallest children, but remember: anything you do to help a child is never wasted.
